In July 2024, Berman & Rabin, P.A., a creditors' rights and collections law firm, experienced a cyberattack where unauthorized parties allegedly accessed files containing sensitive personal information. The firm discovered the incident in July 2024 and notices were sent to consumers shortly after.
The breach potentially exposed names, Social Security numbers, driver’s-license numbers, financial information or account details, medical information, and health-insurance information. Court-related materials indicate approximately 151,944 individuals were affected by this incident. The firm represents lenders and financial institutions, meaning the incident affected data obtained through these relationships.
A class action lawsuit, Burton, et al. v. Berman & Rabin, P.A., was filed in the Circuit Court of Jackson County, Missouri, regarding the incident. The parties later reached a $980,000 settlement without an admission of liability from Berman & Rabin. While a Montana Department of Justice filing exists, a complete nationwide list of Attorney General filings has not been publicly established.
