Strategic Education Inc., an education services company, experienced an external system breach (hacking) between February 23, 2026, and February 25, 2026. The company discovered the breach on May 21, 2026. Notification letters began to be mailed on May 29, 2026, and the incident was reported to the Maine Attorney General on June 1, 2026.
The compromised files contained names in combination with Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, and/or passport numbers. There was no medical or financial account data identified as exposed in the available reporting. While 2,673 Maine residents were affected, the total number of individuals affected nationwide has not been publicly disclosed.
